The Dance of Lenses in Life
The Dance of Lenses in Life:
We can see the world so different from one another, and while we think we know those we love so much, our views, perspectives, and the ways we hear, see, perceive, and experience the same event or conversation can also be so different.
Sometimes our relationships look like dances that are right in sync, fluid and graceful, and other times they may be wild, passionate, and have complementary, but vastly different roles we play in the dance. Your relationships may look like the Salsa, Merengue, Tango, Swing, a Waltz, or maybe even a rambunctious version of the Scottish Strip the Willow. But for all our shaking, shimmying, whirring, twirling, and stomping, we can all agree, the variations, communication, and working together is what makes these dances so fabulous.
Sometimes we instinctively know how to move with our dance partners or crew, but sometimes we need to wait, listen, communicate, and improvise. Sometimes our loved one may seemingly "dance to the beat of a different drummer", and this is where it will take wider openness, curiosity, love for the dance, and a willingness to see the richness in different, the beauty in complexity.
It is easy to say that someone we love or are in any form of relationship with, sees the world "wrong", that they are "always" only doing one dance move, and question why they can't see things and move the way we do. Trauma, anxiety, circumstantial stressors, and stuck communication patterns can make this harder.
This is where doing exercises to understand the workings of our own assumptions, assertions, generalizations, deletions, and fears can unlock a newfound freedom and joy in our relationships.
Wouldn't it feel amazing to move from stagnancy and frustration to enjoying a vigorous and wild dance, a communication of the heart and mind, and a trust in our ability to adapt to the stumbles, turns, and improvisations? There is beauty in our lenses. Would you love to see and understand how to move better with those you love, to glimpse the world in living color, to dance in greater unison?
It is possible.
